Our Story

The YMCA began in London in 1844 and reached the United States by 1851. Over time, it grew into a national movement dedicated to nurturing the potential of youth, promoting healthy living, and fostering social responsibility.

Founded in 1995, the Georgia Mountains YMCA started without a facility but served families throughout Hall County with a variety of programs. Today, we reach over 16,500 people across North Georgia, offering programs and services that strengthen community and improve lives. We welcome all people, regardless of faith, background, or income, and provide nearly $400,000 annually in financial assistance to ensure everyone can participate.

Mission

To put Christian principles into practice through programs, services and relationships that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Youth Development

The YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. From cradle to career, the Y empowers young people to lead inspired, successful lives.

Healthy Living

The YMCA aims to improve our nation’s health by providing programs and activities that promote overall well-being, no matter where you are on your journey toward better health. And when people feel their best and have fulfilling lifestyles, their communities become stronger, too.

Social Responsibility

The YMCA believes our communities are strongest when everyone is included and has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We welcome and connect people of all generations, backgrounds, and perspectives; and we’re committed to addressing issues that people face to create positive change.
